Board Readiness Assessment

Last updated 23 October 2026

Ten questions from the Board Director Guide on board type, committees, the document set, and your network. You get a score, a band and the three gaps to close first. Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored, and there is no email wall.

01 · Board typeYou have chosen the board type you are targeting: public mid-cap, private or family, PE-backed, non-profit, Crown or another.
02 · Committee fitYou can name two or three target committees, and you meet the qualification for at least one (for audit: the SEC financial expert attributes or NI 52-110 literacy).
03 · Separate board CVYou have a board CV built as its own document, separate from your executive resume.
04 · Value propositionYour board CV opens with a two-to-four-sentence board value proposition written to a gap in a skills matrix.
05 · Board-facing dutiesEach executive role on the CV shows the board-facing work: investors, regulators, the audit relationship, committees presented to, succession, capital decisions.
06 · Board biographyYou have a one-page board biography of roughly 300- to 400-words that states your reporting line, the P&L you carried and your board exposure.
07 · Value statementYou have a value statement under 250 words that names a board and the gap you fill.
08 · Governance recordYou hold a seat, or chair a committee on a non-profit or private board.
09 · Your network knowsYou have told people in writing that you are open to board roles, which types, and what you bring, and asked for introductions to board practices.
10 · Clearance and timeYour own CEO or board knows and supports it, and you have planned for more time than the role states.

How it is scored: yes is 2, partly is 1, no is 0, out of 20. The questions come from sections 3 to 8 of The Board Director Guide. Ties among the weakest areas go to the one higher on the page, because the earlier steps come first in the plan.
